REPORT HEADLINES YORKSHIRE AND THE HUMBER REGIONAL FOCUS - The RICS reports that land prices in the Yorkshire and the Humber Region rose by 15% in the second half of 2006 compared with 1% for the first half of 2006.
- Average arable land price in the region is now £8402/ha
- Pasture land price in the region averages £6857/ha.
NATIONAL BACKGROUND - Rural land prices up strongly on rising farmer and non-farmer demand
- Activity in the farmland market shows a big surge
- Rising commodity prices strengthen the financial position of farmers, reducing pressure to put land up for sale
Demand for farmland has been pushed up by record City bonuses, and farmers who have benefited from higher commodity prices - Foreign farmers have also shown a strong level of interest (particularly from Denmark and Ireland according to surveyors) due to the price differential of farmland in their home markets.

Views about how rural issues can be best managed nationally, regionally and locally giving a comprehensive picture of the complexity of the interactions which are necessary if rural interests are to be properly looked after. This RuSource briefing is taken from a paper prepared by the Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) to help Defra and others with an interest in rural issues, to think about how these can best be managed, nationally, regionally and locally, in the future. It gives a graphic picture of the complexity of the interactions which are necessary if rural interests are to be properly looked after. Go to RuSource summary breifing and link to main report. RuSource briefings provide concise information on current farming and rural issues for rural professionals. They are circulated weekly by email and produced by Alan Spedding in association with the Arthur Rank Centre, the national focus for the rural church. |
