The RAIN has been developed as part of the regions Sustainable Farming and Food Plan 'Framework for Change' and has been part funded through the Countryside Agency.

The web site will play a key role in linking together individuals and organisations to make accessible a broad range of advisory services and support mechanisms. It will enable and promote the adoption of a 'no wrong door' attitude across a broad range of advisers in the region so when presented with a query or identifying an issue / opportunity for a farm or rural business they should be able to sign-post to 'the adviser who can'.

The key aims of the site are to

  • support the growth of stronger advice networks within Yorkshire and the Humber
  • allow advisers to share ideas and experiences
  • communicate and promote knowledge transfer and good practice
  • support greater collaboration between advisers and organisations within Yorkshire and Humber
The site will also allow rural businesses and communities

  • to search for an adviser by location and expertise
  • to find and access the right support services
  • to access relevant up to date information
  • a first point of call for events start times and contact details
The success of RAIN depends on a broad acceptance of a common vision amongst all bodies with a stake in the economy, environment and communities in rural areas. This common vision will be developed using shared 'Key Delivery Principles' on how queries are dealt with and how effective signposting to others services takes place

Who is an 'Adviser'?
The term 'adviser' is used in its broadest sense to describe all those who provide guidance and support to farmers, land managers, rural businesses and communities. This can include brokers and trainers, professionals and voluntary workers as well as those from public organisations.

Sustainable Farming and Food
The Rural Advice and Information Network is one of the actions of Framework for Change. The need to improve and co-ordinate the provision of advice to farmers and land managers was highlighted by task and finish groups set up to identify key aspects for the regional implementation of the government Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.
