The Government recognises the importance of new entrants to farming to ensure the industry remains dynamic and innovative. Fresh Start is an industry-led initiative to encourage new entrants into farming whilst at the same time helping established farmers think about how they will respond to the challenges and opportunities of CAP reform . Defra has produced a range of leaflets and information packs as part of this initiative.  Click here for Defra web page index for the Frseh Start Initiative, read more for direct access to the online documents.

Defra has worked closely with stakeholder partners, notably Sir Don Curry, Chair of the Implementation Group for Sustainable Farming and Food, to identify mechanisms to help new entrants into farming. As a result, Sir Don Curry has pulled together a package of measures entitled 'Fresh Start' to which Defra has committed its support.

A leaflet Starting out in farming - a guide to advice and support  which signposts sources of advice, training and support for new entrants.

A leaflet Changing Times - options for the future which has been sent to all farmers prompting them to think about their response to CAP reform and how this will impact on the future direction of their farm business

The information pack Changing Times - Farmers' options for the future  supports professional agricultural advisers when discussing retirement and other options with their farmer clients.

The leaflet Getting started - Inspirations from experience which features a range of farming case studies.
